Lord,

4

waters have lifted up, O Lord,
the waters have lifted his voice, *
lifted up their pounding waves.

5

More powerful than the voice of many waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea, * more powerful the Lord on high.

6

Your testimonies are very sure, *

the holiness adorns your house, O Lord, for ever and ever.

Matthew 18: 1-14

At the same time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the most important kingdom of heaven? 2

Then Jesus called a child and had him stand among them

and said, I assure you that if you do not change become like children, do not enter the kingdom of heaven.

CHTM4 LXC The most important of the kingdom of heaven is he who humbles himself and becomes like this child.

5 And whoever welcomes in my name one such child, receives me.

6 "Anyone who do fall into sin to one of these little ones which believe in me, it would be better to be drowned in the depths of the sea with a large millstone tied to neck.

7 Too bad for the world there are so many incitements to sin! You have any, small rooms. Well I say that in heaven their angels are always watching the face of my heavenly Father.

12 "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one lost it, did not leave the ninety and nine in the mountain to fetch the lost sheep?

And if he finds it, surely more to be glad that sheep than over the ninety and nine which went not astray.

Comment: The Lord Jesus took very seriously the abuse of innocent, poor and children. So goes some hyperbole as the millstone, and one eye removed to express the total hatred he had for the cruelty and abuse. No doubt about it, and we can say that in any culture in the world can find rules against abuse of the innocent, and especially children. But Jesus took it a step further - not just a matter of NOT doing something, but to be proactive in find the marginalized and turn them into the fold. Let's imagine that we are the 99 sheep that are in the corral and the Pastor goes out at night to look for one that was lost. What would our attitude? "Well deserved, if not kept on the road with us, then that matter if you lost. I'm not going to find him and risk your life." But the Lord took a risk to himself, still looking for us when we realized we were lost. There are dozens of people - children and adults - around you who need an act of kindness, an encouraging word - and you have the power, responsibility and joy to extend a hand.
